Estrogen regulates your cycle and controls the growth of the uterine lining before ovulation. It’s responsible for increased energy, bone formation, positive mood, healthy cholesterol levels and affects the urinary tract, heart and blood vessels, bones, breasts, skin, hair, the brain, and more.
When estrogen gets too high (or is too high compared to progesterone) this results in estrogen dominance. You may be experiencing
⁃ PMS, mood swings
⁃ Irritability
⁃ Heavy periods
⁃ Cramps
⁃ Tender breasts
⁃ Acne
Estrogen Dominance is commonly due to a combination of one or more of the following:
➖overconsumption of sugar or processed foods
➖chronic stress
➖excess alcohol consumption
➖ conventional meat and dairy
➖endocrine disrupting products in fragrances and every day products
➖poor sleep
➖poor liver function
➖poor digestion
➖ excess body fat
➖lack of ovulation or low progesterone during luteal phase
Are you struggling wth estrogen dominance? I can help!! We commonly perform the DUTCH test to look at those pesky hormonal balances! IN addition, other ways to help balance estrogen dominance include:
- Evaluating food – Diet including food high in dairy and non organic meat can contribute to the hormonal imbalances. Including foods like cruciferous veggies (Broccoli, cauliflower, kale, spinach) will also help with detoxification of estrogen
- Evaluating environment – Using products that are hormone disruptors, eating non organic foods and also storing foods in plastics can play a role in hormone imbalances.
- Having proper digestion – Having proper digestion plays a role in proper elimination of estrogen. If you are constipated or struggle with digestion, this might also be contributing to the hormone shifts!
