No one likes feeling bloated… and there are many reasons why you might be experiencing some bloating.
Often bloating can be related to your
- Food Sensitivites- perhaps you might have some food sensitivities that do not agree with you. When you are eating something you might be sensitive to it might be worth eliminating for a few weeks to see how your digestion feels. Common foods that can cause bloat are dairy, wheat, onions, garlic and cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cauliflower)
- Low Stomach Acid – When you do not have enough stomach acid to break down your food, it’s common to feel bloating. Common medications such as PPI for reflux inhibit acid production but then also can lead to bloating
- Hormonal imbalances – women will commonly feel digestive issues during their cycle where they might notice some bloating. Closer to your cycle bloating can indicate some hormonal imbalances
If your bloating is related to digestion, you could try these tips:
– sit down to eat – no standing at the counter) this one is the hardest for me!), eating on the go, etc
– take 5 deep belly breaths before your meal (you want to calm your nervous system)
– chew your food *thoroughly* – until it’s applesauce consistency
– really try to eat without distractions – limit scrolling, working, multitasking
– you may also consider digestive enzymes, digestive bitters or ACV before a meal, especially lots of raw veggies!
If these method’s do not work, it might be worth further investigation to get to the root of your bloat!
